A resident at Crofton Springs Care Home in Cheltenham, has been surprised with the adoption of a donkey after sharing her love for the animals with staff.
Charlotte Pumfrey, who lives at the Cheltenham care home, often spoke about how much she loved donkeys and enjoyed watching them on television. Wanting to create a special moment for her, Home Manager Elaine Andrews arranged for Charlotte to adopt a donkey named Peanut on her behalf.
Since the surprise, Charlotte proudly tells fellow residents and staff that she has her own donkey called Peanut. With support from the team, she regularly watches Peanut via a live camera, seeing him run around the fields and enjoying his food.
Charlotte also keeps a framed photograph of Peanut in her bedroom and often points to the screen excitedly, saying: “There’s my Peanut.”
Shannon Eldridge, Deputy Manager at the home, said the surprise was a heartwarming moment for everyone involved.
“It was the best surprise for her – her face lit up and she was so happy and very surprised,” Shannon said.
“Watching her watch Peanut run around the fields was so heart-warming. She was completely engrossed watching him, and it’s been a really sweet moment that we are so glad we could help her have.
“Seeing her show others his pictures and telling them how cute her donkey is, is just lovely.”
The team at Crofton Springs say the adoption has brought Charlotte great joy and has become a special talking point within the home, with residents and staff alike enjoying updates about Peanut.
