Coopers Croft Care Home in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, has been proud to work with Regent College for over two years, providing young people with invaluable work experience opportunities in a real care environment.
Regent College, a specialist college for 16–25-year-olds, has been supporting students with severe learning and communication difficulties since opening in 1999. Their curriculum focuses on developing vocational, social, and independent life skills, helping learners prepare for adulthood and the world of work. The college offers tailored full-time and part-time study programmes, supporting students with conditions such as autism, Asperger syndrome, profound learning difficulties, and behavioural challenges.
As part of this partnership, students from Regent College assist with activities at Coopers Croft, from helping at coffee mornings and supporting staff on the floor with the tea trolley, to engaging in meaningful conversations with residents.
One of the college’s support workers, Megan Boyle, brings two students to Coopers Croft each week – Lucy on Monday mornings and Peter on Fridays. Megan said:
"One of our learners has aspirations to become a care assistant, and her time at Coopers Croft has given her a real insight into the responsibilities of this role. Working closely with the staff, while being encouraged to develop her independence, has helped her confidence grow. She’s learned to interact effectively and adapt her communication, which has been incredibly rewarding to see."
Anita Rawlingson, Lifestyle Manager at Coopers Croft Care Home, said:
"We’re delighted to welcome Regent College students into Coopers Croft each week. Their enthusiasm and support bring so much joy to our residents, whether they’re helping at coffee mornings, assisting with the tea trolley, or simply having a chat. It’s wonderful to see our residents engage with the students and equally rewarding to watch the learners develop their confidence, independence, and skills for the world of work."
Coopers Croft Care Home continues to value its ongoing partnership with Regent College, supporting the next generation of care professionals while enriching the lives of its residents.
Coopers Croft is also currently promoting an introductory offer for new residents, with four weeks for the price of three, providing families with an opportunity to experience the home’s high-quality care and vibrant activities programme.
