December news from Coates care homeFor Residents and Colleagues at the Gables nursing and nursing dementia care home, in Whittlesey, it’s been a busy few weeks with person-centred activities and building up relationships with the local community.

Viktor is a lovely gentleman who is a Resident at the home, and originally from Russia. Viktor used to be an opera singer and is also a ballet fan.

Jane Watkin, Wellbeing Coordinator, sat with Viktor and put on ‘The Nutcracker Ballet’ on for him; his face lit up.

He turned to Jane, made eye-contact and smiled. Viktor tapped his fingers and toes to the music, and with a little encouragement he also conducted the orchestra.

Jane was overjoyed with this, and it was brilliant that they could both enjoy the activity together, she said, “This person-centred activity was a real joy to be a part of.”

Also this month, on 1st December local community group ‘Helping Whittlesey’ delivered presents to the home for Residents who have no family to send them gifts for Christmas.

Jane, along with Carer Christine and Covid Coordinator Ella, were there to receive the presents from Deborah Slater, who represented Helping Whittlesey.

Jane commented, “What a thoughtful and kind gesture. Thank you, Helping Whittlesey.”
