HC-One’s Eastbourne House care home in Whitley Bay participated in Dementia Action Week during May.
Dementia Action Week is a national event led by Alzheimer’s Society that encourages people to come together to improve the lives of those affected by dementia.
Prior to Dementia Action Week, Wellbeing Coordinator, Francesca Pattison reached out to Relatives to ask for old photographs of Residents that she could use to host a reminiscence activity.
The photographs were used for a variety of activities, including, a special game of ‘guess who’ where Residents were shown the photographs on the big screen and had to try and guess which Resident it was in the picture, this brought lots of smiles and laughter to everyone.
They were were also transformed in to jigsaw puzzles and handed out as whole pictures so that Residents could look at photographs from their younger years and share any stories or memories that are important to them.
Eastbourne House Resdient, Shirely Teasdale commented: “Where did you get that photo from? That is remarkable!” Whilst Frances Forster recalled: “I remember that photo of me being taken when I was five years old, I told my mum I needed glasses, and after she saw me squinting so much at the camera – she agreed!”
Eastbourne House Home Manager, Debbie White said: “I would like to thank Francesca for arranging such thoughtful and engaging reminisce activities for our Residents, the effort was truly worthwhile to see how happy our Residents were to see those special photographs.”
Situated in The Links, Eastbourne House offers short and long term care packages for members of the Whitley Bay community that require residential care and residential memory care for those living with dementia.
