Dunfermline care home Residents take a trip out on the canalResidents from The Beeches, nursing and nursing dementia care home in Dunfermline, Fife have recently enjoyed a day trip out on the canal boats.

Over the past couple of months, the Residents have enjoyed a trip out on the canal boats in Falkirk. The previous trip was with Home Manger Angela, and it was great. Everyone had a good laugh and lots of fun.

Seagull Trust Cruises support people in Scotland offering them free trips along the canals, and the closet branch to HC-Ones Murrayfield House is in Ratho. They have three boats available and are fully accessible for everyone.

The Residents really enjoyed the ride along the canal, and all said they had a fantastic time. They had a sing-a-long whilst drifting down the canal, whilst enjoying a cup of tea and a couple of biscuits. The Resident especially loved seeing all the baby ducks and the beautiful views.

After the canal trip they finished off with a trip over the Falkirk wheel then stopped for some delicious lunch.

One Resident, commented, “It was a lovely day for a walk out therefore we went for a walk around the Falkirk Wheel, and it was lovely.”

Linda and Donald are regular volunteers and came along for the trip. They always do such an amazing job helping with the Residents. The staff are very thankful for all their help.

Angela Heyes, Care Home Manager, commented, “The Residents absolutely love a trip out on the canal boats. I really enjoyed my trip out too.”
