HC-One’s April Park Care Home in Eckington, Derbyshire, has marked Global Recycling Day which took place on Monday 18th March 2024 which aims to recognise and celebrate the importance of recycling in order to preserve the world’s primary resources and protect the planet.
On the run up to Global Recycling Day, April Park Care Home have taken part in the Tub2Pub campaign which has been led by Greene King who have been encouraging organisations to recycle their clean empty plastic tubs to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. April Park Care Home’s staff, residents and visitors have all contributed to the initiative by collecting and donating their plastic confectionary tubs, biscuit tubs and cracker tubs to their local Greene King site that they had gathered from chocolates, sweets and crackers from over the festive period to be recycled.
All the tubs are collected from the Greene King site and taken to a plastic reprocessing centre to be shredded and sold onto plastic manufacturers, with the money raised from the sale of Tub2Pub plastics being given to Macmillan Cancer Support. A total of 1,368 tubs were collected by residents, staff and visitors at April Park Care Home which was double the number of tubs collected by the home last year.

“We are really proud to have all helped contribute towards supporting Macmillan Cancer Support and we are looking forward to continuing to support this initiative in upcoming years too. The initiative has multiple benefits including being more ecofriendly through recycling plastics whilst raising money for a great cause at the same time.
“By taking part in the Tub2Pub campaign, this will assist with HC-One’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) ambition to be a carbon net zero care provider.”
