Essex care home couple celebrate momentous 75th wedding anniversaryArthur and Ada Cornell, Residents at Admirals Reach care home in Chelmsford, celebrated their milestone 75th wedding anniversary today.

Arthur and Ada met in 1939 at the beginning of World War Two. Arthur had asked Ada for the directions to ‘Swiss Avenue’ from ‘Broomfield Road’ as he was new to the area, and their love blossomed from there on.

81 years later and the couple have shared a beautiful life together. They have a daughter Pam as well as a grandson Daniel. Both worked on the building and maintenance team with Chelmsford Council; Arthur was a painter and Ada was a secretary.

When asked about what the secret is to a long and happy marriage, Arthur joked, “Being deaf helps! But you must have a sense of humour… must have, it is absolutely essential”.

Ada replied, “Share and Share alike”.

Arthur and Ada were presented with flowers, a card and the home was decorated with balloons. Their daughter visited on this very special occasion and everyone shared the delicious 75th anniversary cake.
