A Resident at HC-One’s 38-bed
Gittisham Hill House care home, in Honiton, Devon, has been talking about her memories of meeting King (then Prince) Charles on her family farm.
Jean Meecham, who now lives permanently at the residential, nursing and dementia care home, took a trip down memory lane as she reflected on life as a girl at a farm where Prince Charles was a regular visitor:
“He was such a lovely man and enjoyed cheese and pickle sandwiches. I cannot believe it now, but I sat on a hay bale with the future King.”
Speaking to her fellow Residents, Jean also remembered the excitement of attending the royal wedding between Charles and Diana in 1981 in Westminster Abbey:
“I had a bright pink outfit, and when we arrived, I walked straight up to the front of the abbey as I thought I had a front row seat - but obviously that was not the case!”
“I am very happy that Prince Charles is now our King, and I would love to meet him again and congratulate him.”
Julia Heneker, Care Home Manager at HC-One’s Gittisham Hill House care home, commented:
“What a lovely story this is, and Jean’s photos are amazing. We are all looking forward to the King’s coronation and celebrating a historic occasion”.
