Godden Lodge Residents Bring Nature Closer with Handmade Bird FeedersResidents at Godden Lodge Care Home in Benfleet, Essex, are enjoying a new sensory-rich activity that combines creativity, purpose, and a connection to the natural world: making bird feeders.

As part of the care home’s gardening club, residents have been crafting simple yet effective bird feeders using toilet paper rolls, peanut butter, and bird seeds. This hands-on activity not only encourages creativity and dexterity but also allows residents to contribute to the home’s gardens in a meaningful way.

“The bird feeders are a wonderful way for our residents to engage with nature while enjoying a crafting activity,” said Julie Barnard, Senior Activity Coordinator Godden Lodge. “Many of our residents love watching the birds visit the feeders from their lounges and bedrooms, bringing them joy and a sense of connection to the outdoors.”

The initiative reflects Godden Lodge’s commitment to creating activities that are both stimulating and fulfilling, helping residents feel purposeful while enjoying the simple pleasures of nature.
