Halloween and Bonfire Night celebrations for Westbury ResidentsA lot of preparation went into preparing for Halloween and Bonfire Night this year for both Colleagues and Residents at the Westbury residential and nursing care home, in Wiltshire.

For Halloween, Residents scooped out pumpkins and then decorated them too. They also did some arts and crafts, for the day, to go on the wall.

On 31st October, it was a party atmosphere in the lounge (which was decorated).

Games were played, including a spin on apple bobbing whereby Residents tried scooping out apples from a bowl using tongs, and utensils, which they all enjoyed as it was quite a challenge!

A buffet, cake and drinks were served and those involved said it was good fun and something different.

One of the Residents remarked, “It brought back memories, thank you for a lovely afternoon.”

The wellbeing team said, “The Residents enjoyed the day and the build up to it; contributing by helping prepare and make things.”

Bonfire Night followed and everyone contributed to make it a day to remember!

A bonfire was built on a wood structure with a fan under to blow the tissue paper to make it look like flames when switched on.

The home’s chef made a wonderful bonfire cake and cupcakes.

Residents help paint the decorations for the walls and surrounding areas. One of the Residents painted the houses of parliament to go on the wall.

A short poem was read out and Residents also took part in a quiz about Guy Fawkes.

Theresa Chacko, Care Home Manager, commented, “A great afternoon and a lot of effort and preparation put in by staff and Residents.”
