Hartlepool care home enhances resident experience with My Life TV and Aurora CubesHC-One’s Brierton Lodge Care Home in Hartlepool, Durham, have embraced the introduction of My Life TV and Aurora Cubes to create a more relaxing and engaging atmosphere for its residents.

My Life TV is an innovative and dementia-friendly streaming service from UK charity My Life Films. It offers curated content such as quizzes, singalongs, chair yoga, animal and nature programmes, and nostalgic shows from the 1960s and 1970s.

The introduction of My Life TV, led by Brierton Lodge Care Home Manager, Jayne Parkins, has created a calmer and more peaceful atmosphere, particularly beneficial for residents with dementia. My Life TV provides soothing and engaging content that promotes relaxation.

The service is accessible on all lounge TVs and in one of the home’s corridors, as well as on personal devices like laptops, tablets, and phones, making it versatile for use throughout the care home. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with residents enjoying improved mood, mental stimulation, and social interaction.

Many families have also requested for the My Life TV application to be installed on their loved ones’ personal TVs within their rooms, which further personalises the experience. The service not only enhances resident wellbeing but also supports caregivers by providing respite opportunities and creating shared viewing experiences for families.

In addition, Brierton Lodge has introduced Aurora Cubes to each unit within the home. These sensory devices combine calming lights and soothing sounds, projecting sensory lights onto ceilings to create tranquil spaces that promote relaxation and sensory engagement.

The presence of Aurora Cubes has transformed the atmosphere across the units in the care home, making the surroundings noticeably calmer and more peaceful for residents with dementia.

Gillian Henderson, HC-One’s Brierton Lodge Wellbeing Coordinator, said:
“We are thrilled to bring these innovative additions to Brierton Lodge. My Life TV and Aurora Cubes are transforming the daily experience for our residents, offering meaningful stimulation and comfort while creating a warm, supportive environment.”

Gerri McHugh, Interim Executive Director of My Life Films said:
“Mainstream TV isn’t made for people with dementia - but My Life TV is. Our programmes are designed for individual use and for group activities, supporting carers at home and staff in residential and day care settings to provide high-quality, person-centred dementia care.
“We’re delighted to have HC-One as one of our valued clients and to collaborate with Jayne Parkins and all the excellent team at Brierton Lodge to enhance care for their residents.”
