Jubilee celebrations at Cambridgeshire care homeResidents and Colleagues over at The Gables care home in Whittlesey have been celebrating the Platinum Jubilee in style this weekend.
 
The Gables hosted a range of different activities and events over the 4 days at the beginning of June. Residents welcomed two garden parties accompanied by their “Singer Gardener” amongst some other outdoor entertainment.
 
There was a royal quiz that Residents got involved with and a range of different games such as Pictionary and other giant-sized games such as bowls and connect four that had been brought in for the celebrations.
 
Residents were singing along and waving their flags throughout the parties and reminisced in the history of the royals. Many Residents expressed their delight in the 4-day celebrations and enjoyed seeing the Queen on TV, they also enjoyed the music, sing and dancing together. Kathleen, a Resident at the Gables said, “I knew we were going to have a party but wow! I didn’t know it would be this big”.
 
Other Residents commented on how exciting it was celebrating such a milestone for the Queen, many Residents were singing “God Save the Queen” and mentioned how she’s “Such a lovely lady”.
 
The final day ended with a traditional tea party which was a huge hit with everybody, they enjoyed some classic cakes such as Victoria sponge cakes and a lovely pot of tea.
 
Ella, a Wellbeing Coordinator at the Gables went on to say, “It was exciting to be part of these celebrations and make it special for our Residents” and Jayne another Wellbeing Coordinator continued, “Here at The Gables we are very proud of all our Residents and Colleagues, we have lots of fun and love sharing it with everyone”.
 
The Gables located in Whittlesey, Peterborough provides nursing and nursing dementia care as well as short and long-term stays.
