June celebrations for Mossley ResidentsIt’s been a month of celebrating at Sandon House residential and residential dementia care home, in Greater Manchester, as everyone got together to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee as well as one milestone birthday.

On 2nd June Sandon House Residents enjoyed celebrating the Queen's Jubilee by watching the ‘Trooping of the Colour’ on television in the morning, then after a potato pie lunch, everyone put on their crowns, waved their flags and enjoyed a good old sing song. The “Queen” herself made a special appearance to the home too (see pictured top right).

For tea, a beautiful buffet was prepared by the kitchen Colleagues, including a selection of Chinese and Indian foods, smoked salmon and prawn salad, barbecue chicken, quiche and a platter of fresh fruit. All were served on royal plates and napkins. Everyone commented on how lovely the buffet looked.

Mary Jackson Buckley, who is a Resident at Sandon House, remarked, "What a wonderful day it has been, and to be able to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee is amazing".

Towards the end of June marked another very special occasion in the home with one Relative celebrating her 80th birthday.

Resident Tommy who lives at Sandon House has a sister called Pat (both pictured bottom right) who visits him every single week. Pat is always grateful to staff for the care they give to Tommy and every week she sends the staff beautiful bouquets of flowers to say thank you.

It was Pat's 80th birthday in June so Colleagues decided to get her a gift. They bought Pat one of her favourite plants, her favourite sweets and also made her a photo frame with a special picture of her and Tommy in it.

Lynne Campbell, Care Home Manager, commented “Every week we receive beautiful flowers from Pat, usually with a theme and special message and we wanted to give something back.”
