Residents and colleagues at
HC-One’s Summerhill Care Home in Kendal, Cumbria, were delighted to celebrate National Dog Day with a heartwarming visit from Animal Rescue Cumbria.
The home, which prides itself on creating a warm and stimulating environment for residents, regularly welcomes visits from animals as part of its wellbeing programme. These sessions give residents the chance to spend meaningful time with animals, often sparking memories and encouraging conversation, while also bringing plenty of smiles and laughter.
On this occasion, residents were thrilled to meet Monty, a friendly rescue dog who quickly won the hearts of everyone at Summerhill. Residents enjoyed stroking, hugging, and chatting to Monty, who was on his very best behaviour throughout the visit. His presence created a real buzz across the home, with residents reminiscing about pets they have owned and sharing stories with one another.
The visit was organised by Wellbeing Coordinator Lynsey Wood, alongside Laura Clement from Animal Rescue Cumbria, with the support of Senior Wellbeing Co-ordinator Sean Moore.
Sean shared:
“Our regular visits from Animal Rescue always bring so much joy to our residents. Thanks as always to Laura for taking the time to see everyone and for keeping Monty on his best behaviour.”
The visit formed part of Summerhill’s celebrations for National Dog Day, which is marked each year to recognise the important role dogs play in people’s lives. For many residents, the day prompted fond memories of pets from their younger years, reinforcing the home’s commitment to offering personalised, meaningful activities.
