Simon Riggs, Head Chef at HC-One’s Chapel Level Care Home in Kirkcaldy, Fife, a 59-bed nursing and nursing dementia care home, has been shortlisted for The Care Home Cook/Chef Award at the Great British Care Awards 2022 for the Scottish region.
The nomination for the award is in recognition of his hard work and kind care shown to Residents, Relatives and Colleagues as well as the dedication and passion Simon shows every day to ensure the people he supports receive the best quality care.
Simon originally started as a Care Assistant at Chapel Level and assisted in the kitchen on his days off. When the Head Chef role became available, he applied and was successful.
Since starting in the role of Head Chef, Simon’s commitment and enthusiasm has influenced his Colleagues. He has fully implemented the menus and arranged taster sessions for Residents to clarify likes and dislikes, taking into consideration their personal choices and preferences to deliver a person-centred service. Simon is caring and treats Residents like his own loved ones.

The Great British Care Awards consist of 23 awards, which cover a wide range of areas of the social care sector. The awards are a series of regional events throughout the UK and are a celebration of distinction across the care sector. The awards pay tribute to those who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their area of work. The award ceremony of the Great British Care Awards 2022, regional awards for Scotland take place at the Grand Hotel Gosforth Park, in Newcastle on Thursday 10th November 2022 when the winners will be announced. Successful winners at the Scottish regional awards will progress to the national finals of the Great British Care Awards 2023 taking place on Friday 17th March 2023 at the ICC in Birmingham.
In total eight HC-One Colleagues have been shortlisted for the Great British Care Awards in the Scottish region.
