Lincoln Deputy Manager shortlisted for Good Nurse Award at the Great British Care AwardsPaula Sellars, Deputy Manager, at HC-One’s Altham Court care home in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, a 46-bed residential and nursing care home, has been shortlisted for The Good Nurse Award Category at the Great British Care Awards 2022 for the East Midlands region.

The nomination for the award is in recognition of her hard work and kind care shown to Residents, Relatives and Colleagues as well as the dedication and passion Karen shows every day to ensure the people she supports receive the best quality care.

Paula is the Deputy Manager at the home but first and foremost she is a Nurse. Paula can balance the two roles very well and is a huge support to the home. She leads by example and will never ask anyone to do anything she is not willing to do herself. She has supported her fellow Nurses to take ownership and promoted confidence within the team and embraced their knowledge of the home and residents. Paula supports with supervisions and has created some wonderful displays for staff learning. Paula’s clinical knowledge is expanse but is always keen to learn more.

Area Director, Margaret Barton, who nominated Paula for the award, said:
“Paula has transformed the treatment room into an organised space and every cupboard or box has a name tag and a place. She has implemented a full cleaning regime of all medical equipment and ensures it is done monthly. Daily, weekly and monthly tasks are delegated and when audits are completed the evidence is there that it is being done. Paula has developed some fantastic working relationships.”
“Paula encourages teamwork and arranged a Colleague from each team to work team building day for the Residents to watch. Residents and Colleagues gathered on the grass area outside of the care home, where two teams took part in a series of head-to-head activities which helped boost Colleague morale.”

Dawn Bridge, Nursing Assistant at Altham Court said:
“Paula is supportive and knowledgeable. I know I can ask her anything and she will help and guide me. Paula is very approachable to all of the staff at Altham Court. Paula is very hardworking, and Residents and Colleagues are very important to her.”
