Live music sing-along at Devizes care homeResidents at Market Lavington residential, nursing and residential dementia care home, in Wiltshire, got together for a live music sing-a-long this April, which brought back musical reminiscence.

On 21st April, Wellbeing Coordinator Riaz Ali played guitar and Residents chose a selection of percussion instruments to play alongside. The group sang songs such as ‘Edelweiss’, ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘You Are My Sunshine’, ‘Wonderful World’, ‘Summer Holiday’ and ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles’.

At one point there was an audience of Colleagues watching and singing along too, including the home’s Housekeepers and Kitchen Assistants.

The activity sparked a lot of discussion and Residents, including Dennis Scullard, Douglas Murray, Susie Hilton, Gordon Grist, Suzie Masterman and Frank Anderson, shared their favourite songs with each other.

Frank remarked, “I wish I had the puff to play the clarinet like I used to as I would have joined in with you on guitar!”

Riaz commented, “It’s clear that music often has had a significant impact on peoples’ lives, with its power to alter moods and bring joy and happiness to so many.”
