Residents have been reaching out to their grandchildren and great grandchildren lately as part of National Intergenerational Week at HC-One’s Moss View care home in Huyton, Merseyside.
During the coronavirus, relationships between the older and younger members of families have been directly affected by lockdown and some grandparents haven’t yet had the chance to meet new members of the family.
With intergenerational week coming up next week, Colleagues used it as an ideal opportunity for Residents to reconnect with the younger members of family and have their own special time with them via Zoom.
Eva Brittnel, a Resident at Moss View, was delighted to received a Zoom call from her two great grandchildren Thomas and Lottie. They showed their Great Nanny their fabulous dance moves and how they do their exercises with lots of laughter throughout.
Eva said: “It’s been lovely watching the children. It’s like a tonic.”
Resident Ron Littler also spent time connecting with his Great Granddaughter Eva. He enjoyed a lovely catch up with his family and used the opportunity to get to know Eva a little better.
Moss View Wellbeing Coordinator, Lesley Nolan, said: “Zoom calls have really helped to bring families together during the pandemic, with some families joining us from different parts of the country and even the world.
“Zoom calls with Residents and their Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren have helped them to reconnect with one another.”
National Intergenerational Week runs from March 8th until the 14th and is aimed at celebrating the moments where different age groups can come together and form new intergenerational friendships. The Zoom calls will continue at Moss View throughout the week and beyond to help Residents to catch up regularly with the little ones in their families.
