March activities with April Park ResidentsThroughout March at April Park in Eckington, which provides residential care, Residents have enjoyed a range of different activities that have been taking place.

With the weather beginning to turn with Spring, it has brought much brighter and drier days which has inspired many Residents to bring the garden back to life. Many of them couldn’t wait to give the garden some real TLC and get their fingers green. A greenhouse was purchased towards the end of last year finally was put up and put to good use, Residents have planted some seeds in the garden and removed some weeds. Residents have also got a bird house, butterfly house and a hedgehog house that they helped make in hopes of inviting some new friends into the garden over this summer.

Residents commented on how much they enjoyed the sunshine, with one Resident saying, “What beautiful weather, I love the bird house with the painting on the front”. Other Residents said they really are hoping some baby hedgehogs use their new house.

Later in the month, Residents also celebrated St. Patricks day together. The day was full of Irish themed music, dancing and singing, which Residents absolutely loved. One Resident said, “I love dancing to this Irish music, it gets me in such a good mood!”. Other Residents enjoyed drinking a glass of Guinness as well.

Colleagues and Residents have also been very busy in trying to make a difference in their local community. They have all been collecting food for the local food bank. Residents at April Park have said they really love getting involved and helping their community and coming up with food hampers to give out has really shown how they can make a difference. Staff at the New Hope food bank were delighted by the kindness shown by the Residents and Colleagues at April Park.

One Resident went on to say that “It’s difficult keeping involved with the local community and keeping safe at the same time, so this was really rewarding for us all. I feel like I’ve made a difference”.

Christine, the Home Manager said, “Its great to see the Residents enjoying themselves. The work they’ve done by giving back to our local community and showing kindness is always rewarding for our Residents”.
