Fieldway Care Home, run by HC-One and located in Mitcham, Surrey, opened its doors to the local community, friends, and families as part of Care Home Open Week, a national celebration connecting care homes with their communities.
One of the highlights of the week at Fieldway Care Home was a serene and inspiring Still Life Painting Session, which took place in the hobby room. The session, part of HC-One’s ‘The Big Summer Weekender’ theme, was attended by residents and relatives, and created a calm, engaging space to explore artistic talents while reminiscing and socialising.
Attendees were treated to a brief history of Still Life art, followed by an introduction to primary and secondary colours. The subject of the session was a charming sculpture of a rhinoceros eating grass, inspiring residents to express their creativity. The atmosphere was made even more relaxing with classical music in the background and a glass of wine to enjoy.
Angela Fenton, Activity Coordinator at HC-One’s Fieldway Care Home, commented:
“Residents really enjoyed this session, and we are hoping to do it again soon. It was a meaningful activity that allowed everyone to get involved, regardless of experience.”
Care Home Open Week took place from Monday 16th June to Sunday 22nd June 2025, with the main celebration events held over the weekend of Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd June. Fieldway Care Home welcomed loved ones, colleagues, and the wider community to enjoy exciting and meaningful activities throughout the week.
HC-One’s chosen theme, ‘The Big Summer Weekender’, aimed to capture the nostalgic spirit of British summer holidays, with themed decorations and engaging activities providing the perfect backdrop for a week of joy, creativity, and connection.
As well as providing a space for residents and their families to celebrate life at the home, visitors were encouraged to speak with the team about community involvement, volunteering, and the rewards of a career in care.
Home Manager at HC-One’s Fieldway Care Home, Alexsandra Albu concluded:
“It’s been a wonderful week celebrating everything we love about life at Fieldway. Events like these give us the opportunity to bring people together, showcase the amazing things our residents do every day, and let the community see just how warm and welcoming our home is.”
