Music and movement at Market Lavington care homeResidents have been taking part in a ‘Music & Movement’ activity group, which are held regularly here at residential, nursing and nursing dementia care home, Market Lavington, in Devizes

The snowball exercises involve grasping the soft ball and gently squeezing, in sets of three. This aids hand-eye coordination and also helps to maintain dexterity and muscle usage in the hands.

Brian Lane, Richard Trowbridge, Dennis Scullard (all pictured) thoroughly enjoyed the stretching exercises.

Richard joked, “Can we do it with real snowballs next time?”

Dennis added, “All that stretching may have made me taller!”

The group all run through gentle stretches, hand and leg movements, soft shoulder shrugs and other exercises too. And all this to the choice of music the Residents choose which this week happened to be a compilation of 1950s songs such as ‘This Old House’.

Brian said, “It’s good to meet others. My legs are the strongest part of me!”

Wellbeing Coordinator Riaz Ali commented, “A great activity which combines the social element and a practical therapeutic element all in one!”

“And of course, the other joy of such groups is the conversations that ensue, often completely unconnected to the activity we are all involved in! The sense of humour and sharing of funny life experiences often creep their way in to the groups too!”
