Neath care home hosts Oscars ceremony for residentsAt HC-One’s Cwrt-Clwydi-Gwyn care home, in Skewen, Neath, residents and colleagues were inspired by the Oscars Academy Awards and decided to do their own award ceremony.

Residents had stated to Wellbeing Coordinators Denise Morgan-Evans and Claire Davies, that they would like to organise an awards afternoon for fellow residents and relatives, to commemorate all the wonderful things happening at the residential and residential dementia care home and what makes it such a wonderful place to live.

At a meeting with the wellbeing team, residents collectively picked the award categories and winners of the awards. They decided on the following:

•    Margaret Williams ‘Most Kindness’
•    Glynn Williams ‘Most Polite’
•    Colin Bowen ‘Comedian of the Year’
•    Myrtle Howells ‘Bookworm of the Year’
•    Margaet Buller ‘Helping with Pets’
•    Muriel Teszke ‘Most Glamorous’
•    Verna Fallon ‘Dancer of the Year’
•    June Lewis ‘Best Puzzler’
•    Phyllis Sandry ‘Dominoes Queen’
•    Margaret Wellinton ‘Smile of the Year’
•    Elsie Whitton ‘Most Creative’
•    William ‘Bill’ Davies ‘Brainbox of the Year’
•    May Slone ‘Best Cwtches’
•    Rita John ‘Most Enthusiastic’
•    Maureen Peters ‘Outstanding Effort’
•    Audrey Nicolas ‘Singer of the Year’
•    Elizabeth Fluck ‘Star Baker

The award of ‘Gardener of the Year’ was given to family member Ursula Morgan, who gave up her own time and money to give the garden a makeover, and it looks fantastic!

On the day of the presentation, colleagues decorated the lounge to make it fit for award winners with Oscars-themed balloons and banners to get into the party spirit.

All recipients of the awards received a lovely certificate, medal, trophy or plaque to display in their rooms, everyone was so proud.

This event was a great opportunity to bring people together and is a testament to how much residents know about each other, and that Cwrt-Clwydi-Gwyn truly is one big happy family.

Verna Fallon, who lives at Cwrt-Clwydi-Gwyn care home, commented:
“This was a fantastic afternoon, everyone really enjoyed it.”

Lisa Llewellyn, Home Manager, added:
“Well, what an amazing afternoon had by all, we enjoyed guessing who the awards were for.
Seeing everyone’s smiling faces when receiving the awards was one of the best days I have had since being the manager at Cwrt-Clwydi-Gwyn.”
