Residents at HC-One’s Redesdale Court care home in North Shields have been benefitting from BT’s Care Home Companion scheme which aims to help tackle loneliness in care home Residents.
Redesdale Court received a designated mobile which the BT volunteers call to speak to Residents in the home. Every day the home receives a call from a different volunteer who spends thirty minutes chatting with a Resident about whatever they want to talk about.
Residents at Redesdale Court have enjoyed the phone calls and getting to know more about the volunteers.
One Resident commented: “It’s nice to be able to open up to someone even if I haven’t met them in person, hopefully they are able to come and visit me when the restrictions are lifted.”
Redesdale Court Home Manager, Daniel Ridley said: “It has been great to see the positive impact that the companion calls are having on our Resident’s wellbeing, picking up the phone and speaking to someone really means a lot to some people.”
