Residents have been enjoying plenty of celebrations and activities over the weekend at HC-One’s Avandale Lodge care home in Lostock Gralam, Cheshire.
They kicked off the celebrations for Chinese New Year as Friday brought in the year of the ox. Residents made incredible Chinese-inspired masks and hand-held fans before tucking into sweet and sour chicken, served with rice and spring rolls.
Saturday morning brought the beginning of Valentine’s Day celebrations and all Residents took part in making beautiful decorations to hang in the dining room.
Residents enjoyed a roast beef dinner on the big day, followed by a delectable slice of cheesecake and some festive chocolate love hearts. Everyone enjoyed a sing-a-long to their favourite love songs and even the odd glass of wine or beer to celebrate.
Betty, a Resident at the home, said: “The decorations are beautiful, it looks lovely in here. The food is delicious as well!”
After a busy weekend of treats and festive food, Residents enjoyed a relaxing day on Monday before tucking into even more sweet treats for Shrove Tuesday the following day.
Colleagues whipped up their best batch of pancakes for Residents to decorate with fruit, chocolate and a variety of sauces. The clear winner for pancake topping at Avandale Lodge was the very traditional lemon and sugar.
Everybody enjoyed a pancake while some Residents even went in for seconds to try new toppings.
Avandale Lodge Home Manager, Stephen McCarthy, said: “It was a fantastic occasion. It was great seeing our Residents all together enjoying their pancakes with their favourite toppings.”
