Peniel Green Care Home in Llansamlet, Swansea, is proudly celebrating St David’s Day with a heartfelt and creative tribute from resident Eileen Griffiths, who has written a special poem to mark Wales’ national day.
Eileen, a proud Welshwoman and passionate supporter of Welsh culture and traditions, has once again shared her literary talents with fellow residents and staff, capturing the spirit of St David’s Day through memories, traditions and humour.
Her poem reflects on the excitement of 1 March, from children wearing traditional Welsh costume and daffodils to school Eisteddfods, cheering crowds, and classic Welsh foods such as bara brith and cawl. The piece ends with a warm St David’s Day message and a heartfelt “Cymru Am Byth!”
Rhian Dummer, Home Administrator at Peniel Green, said:
“Eileen is truly fabulous and never fails to impress us with her creativity and love for Welsh traditions. Her poem is a wonderful reminder of how important it is to celebrate culture and heritage, and it has brought smiles to residents and colleagues alike.”
Eileen added:
“I am a very proud Welsh person and love to keep the old Welsh traditions alive. Writing this poem was my way of sharing those memories and wishing everyone a very Happy St David’s Day.”
Peniel Green Care Home is sharing Eileen’s poem alongside a photograph of her holding the typed copy, celebrating both her talent and the rich cultural heritage of Wales.
