Residents and team members at HC-One’s Kirkwood Court care home in Kenton, Newcastle-upon-Tyne came together to celebrate Pride Month.
An annual celebration each June, Pride Month is held in honour of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, which was a tipping point in the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.
Kirkwood Court hosted a day of Pride celebrations, both team members and Residents dressed in lots of bright colours of the rainbow to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community. As well as having lots of interesting discussions about the importance of equality and embracing everyone’s differences, Residents enjoyed decorating cakes.
Kirkwood Court Resident, Violet Stewart commented: “What a great day, I’ve loved seeing all of the bright colours and seeing everyone smiling.”
Kirkwood Court Home Manager, Angela Douglass said: “I am pleased that everyone participated in our Pride celebrations, it’s so important to support everyone in our community to feel comfortable to be who they are.”
Located on Kirkwood Drive, Kirkwood Court care home offers short and long term care packages for older ladies and gentlemen in Newcastle-upon-Tyne that require residential care and residential memory care for those living with dementia.
