At Liverpool residential care home,
Bellefield, Colleagues set up a project last year to raise funds for a permanent garden structure, as the home had lost about eight Gazebos due to the garden being at the end of a wind tunnel!
Through tremendous fundraising efforts, they managed to raise £550 with donations from Residents’ families, a local dragon boat club and from Colleagues at the home.
This purchased all the materials and one Colleague’s husband and his friend built the new pergola for everyone to enjoy.
Barry, on the maintenance team, is making the garden look wonderful with his green fingers, the garden will soon be in full bloom and the Residents will have lots of lovely flowers, and beautiful fragrant smells to look forward to during the summer months.
The Residents have started making lots of garden objects to brighten it up in their craft club too.
Residents love how the new pergola looks, with one saying, “It is so beautiful, somewhere for me to sit with my friends.”
Another Resident added, “My family will be very jealous we have this and they don't.”
Home Manager Jackie Bridge commented, “I am genuinely bowled over at how generous and thoughtful families, the crusaders dragon boat club and Bellefield staff for raising the money”
“A big thank you to Pete Preston and Bob Bridge for building the Pergola free of charge, and settling for an endless supply of cups of tea!”
