A resident at Coppice Court Care Home in Eastbourne, East Sussex, has been putting his energy to good use by helping staff prepare for supper – bringing smiles to everyone around him.
Jack Tingey, who is fairly new to Coppice Court, recently told the team he would love to help out as he often feels bored and prefers to keep himself busy. Having always been a “busy body” at home, Jack was keen to lend a hand wherever he could.
Jack offered to help the team with preparing for the evening meal. He carefully folded all the napkins ready for supper before helping to lay the tables in the dining area.
His efforts didn’t go unnoticed, and the activity gave Jack a wonderful sense of pride knowing he was helping others.
Wellbeing Coordinator Tia Downer, who supported Jack during the activity, said it was a joy to see how much he enjoyed being involved.
“It was lovely to see the beaming smile on Jack’s face knowing he was helping. Keeping busy is something he really enjoys, and you could see how proud he felt after laying the tables for everyone,” she said.
Jack enjoyed the experience so much that he has already asked if he can help again in the future, saying it kept him busy and gave him something meaningful to do.
Moments like these are an important part of life at Coppice Court Care Home, where residents are encouraged to stay active, involved and continue doing the things they enjoy.
For the team, seeing Jack so happy and proud of helping out made the moment even more special.
“It was wonderful to see him keeping busy and so happy knowing he was helping,” added Tia.
