At
Needham Court, residential and residential dementia care home in Jarrow, Tyne and Wear, residents had a lovely idea of making their own vegetable patch.
The Resident were keen to learn how to grown their own produce and thought the best way to do this would be to put their DIY skills to the test and built their very own fruit and vegetable patch.
The care home are currently at the start of the project where Residents and Colleagues have been looking for the best garden beds to use. When researching this, Colleagues came across raised beds which will allow all Residents to take part in the gardening activities.
Some of the Residents put their DIY skills to the test and assembled the raised beds and are very happy of the outcome so far.
In the coming weeks both Residents and Colleagues will be planting the fruit and veg seeds and going in the garden daily to care for them. This has been a big talking point in the home with different ideas being shared, and family members have also donated tomato plants.
One Resident, John said, " I have always had an allotment and always grew different things, and they really do taste better." Another Resident named Audrey said " I can’t believe we are going to grow fresh fruit and veg"
Care Home Manager, Joann Mills, added, “It’s great to see our Residents getting involved and sharing all their gardening tips.”
