Residents from Eastbourne House hit the road for a trip down memory laneThree of the Residents from Eastbourne House, based in Whitley Bay, have been on an exciting minibus trip to Durham.

Joan O’Neill, one of the Residents used to live in Durham and so she suggested a trip to her old city. Joan said: “I suggested Durham so that I could share my local knowledge with everyone, it is such a brilliant city and I wanted people to be able to experience that with me.”

After Joan expressed her interest in returning to Durham, Wellbeing Coordinator Karen Drew leapt at the opportunity to arrange a great day out for those who wanted to attend.

The ladies, Karen and their bus driver Alan took packed lunches, complete with trays and a china set so that they could enjoy a very civilised picnic in the park.

Karen said: “The ladies’ tea party was wonderful. The china set really made it, and meant that even members of the public were stopping to comment on how fabulous everything looked.”

After a lovely morning exploring Durham, Wellbeing Coordinator Karen, Busdriver Alan, and Joan, Marjory and Zelda, the three Residents headed to South Shields Fish Quay to have a rest with a glass of wine or coffee.

The Residents commented on how much they loved their day out, and said that admiring Durham’s beautiful architecture and scenery was a real highlight.

Resident Marjory Thompson said: “This day has been so lovely! I have been dying to get out to see Durham for a long time. What a beautiful day we have had together.”

Karen said that visiting Durham with other Residents is high on her list after such a great day was had by all. Karen said: “We had a wonderful day and will definitely be coming back!”
