Residents Get Creative with Flower Arranging at Kenton Care HomeResidents at HC-One’s Kirkwood Court Care Home in Kenton, Newcastle upon Tyne, recently took part in a delightful flower arranging activity, bringing colour, creativity, and conversation to their day. The event was part of the home's commitment to enriching the lives of residents through meaningful, engaging activities.

The session was held in the main lounge, where tables were beautifully laid out with a wide variety of fresh flowers including roses, carnations, chrysanthemums, and greenery. Residents were encouraged to explore their creativity, selecting their favourite blooms to craft their own floral arrangements. With gentle background music playing and a warm, social atmosphere, the lounge was soon filled with laughter, chatter, and the sweet scent of fresh flowers.

Wellbeing Coordinator at HC-One’s Kirkwood Court Care Home, Lauren Proctor said:

“Flower arranging is always a popular activity here at Kirkwood Court. It’s not only relaxing and enjoyable, but also a great way to support hand-eye coordination, stimulate the senses, and spark fond memories. Many residents have told us it reminds them of their gardens or past hobbies.”

The benefits of the session went beyond the arrangements themselves. Residents shared stories about their favourite flowers, discussed seasonal gardens, and offered each other tips and compliments as they worked. It was also a chance for colleagues and residents to connect on a more personal level, encouraging conversation and inclusion.

Once completed, the arrangements were proudly displayed in residents’ rooms and around the home’s communal areas, brightening the spaces for everyone to enjoy. The sense of achievement and pride was clear to see, with many residents asking when the next session would be.

HC-One Home Manager Karen Stewart, commented:

“Activities like this are central to the ethos of person-centred care we offer at Kirkwood Court. We aim to provide opportunities that celebrate our residents’ individuality and support their overall wellbeing, emotionally, mentally and socially.”

Kirkwood Court continues to offer a diverse programme of events and activities designed to enrich daily life, build community, and ensure every resident feels valued and supported.
