Residents at Godden Lodge Care Home in Benfleet, Essex, are enjoying a little extra relaxation and self-care thanks to the home’s popular monthly Pamper Afternoon, designed to boost wellbeing and bring residents together.
The special afternoons take place across all units in the home and offer residents a chance to unwind in a calm, spa-like setting. Soft music plays in the background while residents enjoy foot spas, facemasks and soothing hand massages, creating a peaceful and uplifting atmosphere.
The initiative is designed to support residents’ emotional wellbeing as well as provide a relaxing experience. Activities like these can help reduce anxiety, improve mood and boost self-esteem, while also encouraging social interaction and meaningful engagement.
For residents living with dementia, the sensory elements of the afternoon – including gentle touch, calming music and familiar pampering routines – can help them feel comfortable and relaxed.
The sessions also provide valuable opportunities for residents to connect with one another. Many find themselves sharing stories and reminiscing about their past, often recalling fond memories of trips to the salon or time spent getting ready for special occasions.
