River Court Care Home Residents Enjoy Enchanting Theatre Performance at Oaklands CollegeResidents from River Court Care Home in Watford, Hertfordshire, enjoyed a memorable and uplifting day out after visiting Oaklands College’s Welwyn Garden City campus to watch a fantastic theatre performance by the college’s talented students.

The residents were delighted to be invited as the audience for a creative and engaging reimagining of Beauty and the Beast, entirely produced by Oaklands College theatre students. The performance was made even more special by the fact that the students wrote their own script, selected their own music, and choreographed original dance routines.

Throughout the show, residents were visibly enthusiastic, captivated by the energy and confidence of the performers. The dancing was incredible, the singing was outstanding, and the students’ beautiful voices harmonised wonderfully together. The choreography was full of life and a real joy to watch, showcasing the students’ creativity and commitment.

At the end of the performance, residents clapped and cheered, sharing their appreciation with the students and thanking them for such a wonderful experience.

River Court resident Sheila Sayers said:
“What a lovely performance – the students were truly amazing.”

Another resident, Margaret Gullen, added:
“What a lovely performance. I hope to be invited again.”

Following the show, the students organised an interactive session for residents and staff, printing out song lyrics and encouraging everyone to sing along. They also taught some of the choreography, with many residents happily joining in. As a thoughtful finishing touch, the students provided word searches for staff and residents to take home.

Cecilia Kassanga, Home Manager at River Court Care Home said:
“Days like this mean so much to our residents. Seeing them so engaged, smiling and joining in was wonderful, and the Oaklands College students put on a truly fantastic performance. We are incredibly grateful for the warm welcome and for creating such a special experience for everyone involved.”
The visit was a truly special day and a wonderful example of the positive impact of community connections through creativity and the arts.

River Court Care Home would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Oaklands College theatre students for their outstanding performance, to Laurie Asher, Oaklands College Theatre Teacher, and to the River Court Wellbeing Team for organising transport and the visit. Special thanks also go to Megan Howcutt and Sarah Wigmore for helping to organise such a memorable day.
