Springtime comes to Pennwood Lodge with Easter bonnets and National Tea DayFor Residents at Wotton-under-Edge care home, Pennwood Lodge, which offers residential, nursing and dementia care, spring celebrations have began including Easter bonnet making as well as celebrating National Tea Day.

On 13th April, Residents, including Ruth Lester, Catherine Gent and Ruth Candy, enjoyed doing Easter crafts, especially making pretty bonnets (see pictured). Colleagues assisted them to choose the items they wished to decorate the bonnets with, which were then stuck on the hats. There were some beautiful floral and colourful designs.

Julie Hill, Wellbeing Coordinator, commented “It was great to see the Residents engaging in this activity.”

Ruth said, “It was a bit of fun choosing and making the bonnets!”

Following on, the 21st of April marked ‘National Tea Day’, which is of course a very popular beverage at the home, so staff and Residents celebrated with an afternoon tea, accompanied by several different types of tea, for all to sample.

Residents tried vanilla chai, earl grey, raspberry and ginger, chamomile and liquorice and peppermint. The overall favourite was the liquorice and peppermint which surprised everyone as they all said it didn’t sound too appetising!

Shelia Edwards, who lives at Pennwood Lodge, said, “It was nice to try some different teas, but most of all I enjoyed sitting with others and finding out interesting facts.”

There was a good display of afternoon tea with a different variety of cakes, all created by the home’s chefs using certain flavours of tea; tea bread, tea flavoured scones and Victoria Sponge with vanilla chai tea cream.

To end a wonderful afternoon, there was also a trivia and short quiz activity for everyone to participate in.

Julie added, “It was a nice afternoon sampling something different and seeing the Residents and staff having a wonderful time!
