Residents at Coppice Court care home in Eastbourne, East Sussex, were treated to a lively musical experience when steel drum player Theo visited to perform for them.
The vibrant sounds of the steel drums quickly filled the room, creating a joyful and uplifting atmosphere as residents gathered to listen. Many were fascinated by the instrument and enjoyed the energetic rhythms that made the session feel like a celebration.
One resident in particular, Leroy Comach, was especially delighted by the performance. Originally from San Fernando in Trinidad, Leroy used to play the steel drums himself, and hearing the music again brought back many fond memories.
Steel drum music is an important part of Trinidadian culture, and Theo’s visit gave Leroy a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with the sounds he loves. He was clearly moved by the experience and thoroughly enjoyed the session.
After the performance, Leroy said:
“That was amazing – I used to play these! Hearing the steel drums and the different music brought back so many memories. Can he come back again?”
Team members at Coppice Court said it was a pleasure to see residents so engaged in the music.
A staff member at the home said:
“It was lovely to see the residents completely fixated on the drums and Theo playing – especially Leroy. The music created such a special atmosphere and meant a lot to everyone here.”
Theo’s visit proved to be a memorable event for residents, with the joyful sounds of the steel drums bringing smiles, memories and a real sense of celebration to Coppice Court.
