Woodlands View care home, in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, has been encouraging residents to engage in physical exercise by holding a mini-Olympics.
Inspired by a summer of sport in which Team GB excelled in Paris and the men’s England football team reached the final of Euro 24, residents responded by joining in the range of competitive disciplines – including throwing emoji balls into buckets, hook-a-duck, and the egg and spoon race.
Staff at the HC-One owned care home, which offers residential, nursing and dementia care, also joined in with a hula hoop competition.
Residents are split between four houses within the care home, and each house competed with each other, with Newton House emerging victorious with the most medals.
Mandy Mead, Woodlands View Home Manager, said:
“It was a great day with so many laughs and smiles. We were also joined by residents to watch the sports day, they seemed to really enjoy the day too.”
