The start of spring at Gittisham Hill House care homeSpring has got off to a fantastic start at HC-One’s Gittisham Hill House care home, in Honiton, Devon, as Residents have had a choice of an array of different activities on the wellbeing programme, which has included a visit from a four-legged friend, and live entertainment from a local singer.

On 6th March, pet therapy dog, Treacle and his owner Helen, came to visit the 38-bed residential, nursing and dementia care home. Treacle visits Residents around the home, who are all very excited to see Treacle, who gets lots of strokes, pats and chatter too!

Gittisham Hill House is a pet friendly home and have other therapy dogs who visit, as well as Relatives and friends who often bring their dogs in too to see Residents.

When cuddling Treacle, one of the Residents said, “Oh so cute and so fluffy, it reminds me of my dog. When are Treacle and Helen coming back?”

Emma Walker, Wellbeing Coordinator, said, “Treacle was so good and did exactly as he was supposed to. Helen his owner didn't rush and answered all the questions she was asked. We had a second visit on March 20th too which went just as well.”

Following on, later in the month a new singer performed at Gittisham Hill House. Cameron (pictured) played a variety of tunes from Dick Van Dyke to Frank Sinatra, and everybody was up and dancing to all of them.

He interacted with Residents before, during and after the performance and everyone wants him back to sing some more!

Residents commented that they loved his voice and that he was a good singer and there was good choice of songs.

Julia Heneker, Care Home Manager, remarked, “Cameron was so lovely with everyone at our home, and it was great to see everyone up and dancing.”
