Treharris Care Assistant wins at the Wales Care Awards 2022Mary Baber, Care Assistant at HC-One’s Trafalgar Park in Treharris, Caerphilly, a 52-bed residential and residential dementia care home, was crowned Bronze Winner in the Residential Care Practitioner Award Category at the Wales Care Awards 2022.

The Wales Care Awards, which took place on Friday 21st October at City Hall in Cardiff, celebrated excellence across the care sector and congratulated workers who have demonstrated outstanding excellence.

Mary, who on the day of the event celebrated exactly 23 years working at the care home, was recognised by the judges for being compassionate, caring, understanding and always putting the welfare of Residents at the forefront of everything she does. The level of care she provides to Residents comes from the heart and she ensures that they never lose their sense of dignity or individuality in all of the general activities that take place within the care home.

Judges also recognised how everyone knows and talks about Mary within the home, she leaves a lasting impression on Relatives, being polite, kind and caring. She is a very popular and well-loved member of the team.

Another attribute which was recognised as part of the award, is that Mary works collaboratively with Colleagues, and she is always heavily involved in delivering person-centred care. An example is how she has recently been involved with helping to redecorating the Residents’ lounge, following feedback in a Residents meeting that they wanted to change the colour of the walls. As a result of this, the lounge was redecorated and painted in a colour scheme that reflected their choice.

Commenting on her win, Mary said:
“I am honoured to have been nominated, it was a lovely evening celebrated with my Colleagues thank you for the nomination, I love my job!”

Ellen Smith, Home Manager at Trafalgar Park, remarked:
“We are all proud of Mary and cannot thank her enough for the care and kindness she shows to the ladies and gents at Trafalgar Park, well done and well deserved.”
