VE Day and movie night at Callands care homeResidents at Warrington’s residential, nursing, residential memory care and nursing memory care home, Callands, have been super busy this week, not only celebrating VE Day, but having great fun with a movie night.

Yesterday was VE Day, and as the home could not have an entertainer, due to current pandemic restrictions, Colleagues bought a VE Day video special and played it in the ‘Kendal Lounge’ for all the Residents to watch, sing along and enjoy.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed singing along to this video, it was amazing to see all Residents in high spirits. A table was then set with a selection of food, like the old-fashioned street parties, and Residents enjoyed a tipple of sherry or a pint.

It was lively, entertaining and both Residents and Colleagues loved the old songs

Tonight, a movie night was put on for Residents and they watched ‘Mrs Browns Boys’. There was plenty of laughter and this was lovely to see and hear all around the home.

There was drinks and snacks (all the favourite movie munchies) for the Residents to enjoy.

Mary Durkin, Non-Clinical Deputy Manager, remarked, “We will do this again as the Residents have requested it on a regular basis. it was a lovely atmosphere all around.”

Lesley Nosworthy, Care Home Manager, commented, “The joy in the Residents’ faces lifted their spirits with a bit of laughter over the last couple of days, it was just wonderful to see.”
