VJ Day celebrations for Newton care home ResidentsToday in celebration of VJ Day at HC-One’s the Sycamores residential and residential memory care home, in Hyde, Colleagues decorated all the units within with themed décor such as the Union Jack flag bunting, a variety of other flags, paper streamers, posters and even their own flying spitfires!

The Residents, including pictured Janette Baxter and Joyce Lee, enjoyed being involved in the decoration and took some pleasure in deciding where things should go, whilst others helped staff put up the decorations.

One of the Residents commented, “The décor is great, the spitfires are fab!”

All the Residents were really impressed with the flying spitfires and enjoyed the show which staff put on; pretending to fly around the lounge! The Residents had a jolly good laugh at this!

Later in the afternoon, Residents from different units came together to enjoy a show on the big screen. They enjoyed live entertainment from Michael Bublé. Everyone enjoyed the show and many took pleasure in singing along to the well-known songs and following the dances on screen.

During the show refreshments were served, including a selection of white, red, rose and fruity wine as well as some delicious cheese and crackers, red and green grapes, and Danish pastries.

After the show had finished, everyone enjoyed a good old sing song with songs based on the 1940’s era, before settling down to watch a dated movie in black and white on the big screen.

Renee Bell Wellbeing Coordinator, commented, “The Residents enjoyed helping to put up the décor, the live entertainment and of course all the goodies!”

Carol Potts, Care Home Manager, added, “I think Renee has again outdone herself, the home décor is amazing bringing a lot of life to our home, especially the spitfires! The snacks prepared also looked great. The Residents had a fantastic afternoon!”
