Due to the annual community Remembrance Day ceremony being cancelled this year, the people of Whittlesey decided to make their own wreath and display them around the community. Residents and Colleagues at The Elms care home were asked if they would like to take part which they were more than happy to!
Wellbeing team members Janette and Dale organised for Residents to make some wreaths which everyone had great fun doing.
Today one of the British Legions Standard Bearers, Jane, came to The Elms and provided a lovely Act of Remembrance outdoors, where Residents watched from the lounge.
Later in the day, Residents completed a quiz and reminisced with others of their memories during those difficult times. Everyone said how pleased they were with the wreaths on display; which were also shown on the ITV news that evening.
The Residents stated that they enjoyed watching the service provided during these difficult times and were happy to see the wreaths on TV.
One Resident, who helped with all the sewing of the wreaths, said she had really enjoyed making them.
Home Manager, Katie Coulson, commented, “It was beautiful to walk through the town and see the Residents wreaths, with The Elms written, to show how hard they had worked.”
