Widnes care home Residents grow strawberries this springAt HC-One’s Ferndale Mews care home, which offers residential memory care and nursing memory care for those living with dementia, the team received a kind donation from one of the local ladies in the community, a handful of strawberry plants which needed some tender loving care and nursing back to health.

Over the last few weeks people at the home have been making sure they are watered and fed. On the last inspection, a week ago, they were shocked to find little flowers had bloomed.

Then to everyone’s absolute amazement and excitement upon watering and feeding the plants this week, they have found little green strawberries growing!

Dolly and Marjorie, who both live at Ferndale, were absolutely over the moon with the findings and could not wait to inspect all of the little fruits and give them a nice drink. Dolly said she loves gardening but this is the first time she’s grown strawberries. She can’t wait to grow other fruits and vegetables now!

Dolly (pictured top right) and fellow Resident Marj (pictured bottom left) commented, “We love watching the progress each week and helping to take care of them, we can’t wait to be able to taste one!"

The Residents have really enjoyed reviving the plants and watching them grow and change week by week.

Chris, from the maintenance team said, “I am very impressed with the baby strawberries, and also can't wait to taste one!”
