HC-One’s Kings Court Care Home in Middlebeck, Newark-on-Trent is delighted to announce it will be hosting a Volunteer Taster Day on Wednesday 22nd October 2025, from 11:00am to 4:00pm.
The event is open to anyone interested in giving their time to support older people in their community. Whether you have a few hours a week, a couple of days a month, or just want to find out more before committing, this taster day will show you how rewarding and enjoyable volunteering can be.
Visitors will be welcomed into the home to meet the friendly team, talk to current volunteers, and see first-hand the difference volunteers make to the lives of residents. Attendees will also be able to take part in sample activities, such as:
- Assisting with games, crafts and reminiscence sessions
- Supporting social events and celebrations
- Accompanying residents on day trips and outings
- Offering companionship and conversation
Volunteering at Kings Court not only benefits residents but also offers personal rewards. Volunteers often speak of the joy and sense of purpose they gain from building new friendships, developing skills, and being part of a supportive team. Full training and guidance are provided, and no previous experience is necessary – just kindness, patience, and a willingness to make a difference.
Tina Joyce, a volunteer at HC-One’s Kings Court Care Home, stated:
“I moved to the area around three years ago after retiring, and one day I received a note through my door inviting me to Kings Court’s first birthday open day. I decided to go along, and I was hooked from that very first visit! The residents, with their gorgeous smiles, completely melted my heart. I’d been looking for a sense of purpose in retirement, so I asked if I could come back as a volunteer.
“Volunteering here has turned out to be one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. I love spending one-to-one time with residents, offering care, companionship, and support, especially for those who have little or no family. I join in with activities, outings, and love simply talking or reading together.
“For anyone who has time to give, I can’t recommend volunteering enough. It’s so fulfilling, many of the residents now feel like family to me. Each person has their own story, their own challenges, and being able to make a difference in their lives is an incredible feeling.”
