Residents at HC-One’s The Oakes Care Home in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, were treated to a heart-warming morning of creativity and connection on Thursday 27 November as students from
Kirklees College visited as part of their Social Action Kindness Project.
The visit, involving 20 learners from the Level 3 Forensic and Criminal Investigation (Year 1) course, formed part of Kirklees College’s contribution to the national Good4Me Good4FE Kindness Campaign, which encourages students to engage in meaningful social action within their communities.
Residents and students spent quality time together enjoying arts, crafts and a generous selection of homemade sweet treats, many prepared specially with residents’ dietary needs in mind.
Natalie Marshall, Wellbeing Coordinator at The Oakes, said:
“We had a great morning with the students and residents. Watching the young and the older generation bonding together over arts, crafts and cake was super to be part of.”
Maria King, Regional Admissions Coordinator at HC-One, stated:
“The students brought the most delicious, sweet treats for the residents, I had a piece of Victoria sponge which took one student 4 hours to make, worth every bite!”
The students also ensured that all residents were included and supported by taking time to prepare ingredient lists and dairy-free options.
The Oakes Care Home extended their thanks to the college for their thoughtful visit.
