Incredible HC-One Operational Learning and Development Team shortlisted for Workforce Development AwHC-One’s Operational Learning and Development Team for Scotland have been shortlisted as finalists in ‘The Workforce Development Award’ category by the judging panel at the Great British Care Awards - Regional Awards for Scotland 2022. 

The Great British Care Awards pay tribute to those who have achieved outstanding accomplishments within their area of work and celebrate excellence across the care sector. 

The team consists of three Colleagues - Adam McGurn, Michelle Taylor and John Thomson who have been shortlisted in ‘The Workforce Development Award’ category, as they have shown enthusiasm and determination in identifying training and development needs of care Colleagues, demonstrated enthusiasm and rolled out training programmes, energised and motivated Colleagues to attend and request training as well as searched for and gained funding when needed. 

The team are highly passionate about learning, and continually go above and beyond their daily roles. This can be clearly seen by the one-to-one support they continue to give HC-One care homes, where they spend the day observing Colleagues at home level, supporting, coaching and mentoring them in a wide variety of areas, from safer people handling to care plans to safeguarding best practice. 

Buffy Sparks, Head of Operational Learning and Development at HC-One who nominated HC-One’s Operational Learning and Development Team for Scotland for the award, commented: 

“I am extremely proud of Adam, Michelle and John for being shortlisted as finalists in The Workforce Development Award Category at the Great British Care Awards – Regional Awards for Scotland 2022. 
“Over the last 12 months, the team have all tirelessly and passionately continued to support our homes in a variety of ways. From delivering bespoke training workshops, induction delivery to new Colleagues in our homes (which spans over 3 days within the classroom) one-to-one coaching and observations within our homes, to being key operational links on high priority projects being developed and delivered across Scotland, alongside developing working relationships with external outside bodies, all of which underpin our ongoing desire and passion to ensure that we are delivering the best possible care for our Residents and continued ongoing development for our Colleagues.” 


The Great British Care Awards consist of 23 awards, which cover a wide range of areas of the social care sector. The award ceremony of the Great British Care Awards 2022, Regional Awards for Scotland takes place at the Grand Hotel Gosforth Park, Newcastle on 10th November 2022 when the winners will be announced. Successful winners of the regional awards for Scotland will progress to the national finals of the Great British Care Awards 2023 taking place on Friday 17th March 2023 at the ICC in Birmingham.

HC-One’s Operational Learning and Development Team for Scotland are one of eight HC-One finalists at the Great British Care Awards – Regional Awards for Scotland 2022 across a wide range of award categories.
