HC-One care homes across the UK have been celebrating meaningful connections between residents and younger generations, with a series of uplifting intergenerational visits taking place in recent weeks. These experiences, which bring children, families and local groups into our homes, continue to play an important role in supporting residents’ wellbeing, confidence and sense of community.
Songs, smiles and special moments at Colton Lodges
At Colton Lodges care home in Colton, Leeds, residents have enjoyed a new partnership with The Together Project, who selected the home to host a full year of Songs & Smiles sessions, which is offered completely free for local families.
The weekly sessions bring babies, toddlers, parents and guardians into the home for singing, play and time spent together. Residents have described the group as “wonderful” and “the highlight of the week”, with many reflecting on memories from their own younger years.
Colleagues have also seen the positive emotional impact, helping reduce loneliness, spark conversation and build genuine friendships across generations.
Creativity and conversation at Mossdale Residence
Residents at Mossdale Residence in Burnholme, York welcomed children from Stockton Lane Playgroup for a morning of autumn crafts, shared snacks and nursery rhymes.
The children and residents spent time creating felt trees and seasonal artwork before heading outside to enjoy the home’s courtyard. The visit coincided with National Nursery Rhyme Day, giving everyone a chance to sing together and enjoy the moment.
The playgroup will return for a festive visit in December, continuing Mossdale Residence’s commitment to enriching life through community partnerships.
Festive fun at Cadley Hill View
At Cadley Hill View care home in Swadlincote, residents enjoyed a heartwarming visit from a local Brownies group. Over hot chocolate and Christmas songs, the girls brought energy and smiles that filled the home with early festive cheer.
Residents shared how much they enjoyed the chance to meet the children, listen to their singing and spend time together.
