Primrose House Care Home wins national training award

HC-One’s Primrose House care home in Haslington, Crewe, is celebrating national recognition after winning the Training and Development of the Year award at the National Care Awards 2025, held on Friday 7th November at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London.

The award celebrates Primrose House’s outstanding commitment to colleague development and excellence in dementia care.

Over the past year, Deputy Home Manager Jasmin Desingco, Nursing Assistants Chloe Taylor and David “Craig” Joinson led a transformative initiative by completing Tier 2 Dementia Coach Training. This enabled them to deliver a six-part dementia training programme to all 62 colleagues at the home, supporting a culture of compassionate, informed, and person-centred care.

The impact has been felt across the home. The training has enhanced colleagues’ skills and confidence in supporting people living with dementia, including those in ancillary roles, while also improving resident wellbeing. Primrose House recently achieved an Outstanding rating for dementia care in its internal inspection and saw an 80% reduction in “as required” antipsychotic medication, with behavioural triggers addressed through improved understanding and person-centred support.

The success of the initiative has also inspired wider adoption across HC-One, with the team invited to share their learning at internal events and develop a condensed version of the training for residents’ families and friends.

Home Manager Dawn Sadler said:

“We are absolutely thrilled to win the Training and Development of the Year award. This recognition reflects the dedication and passion our team shows every day, empowering colleagues to provide the very best care. I am incredibly proud of Jasmin, Chloe, Craig, and the whole Primrose House team for creating a truly kind and compassionate care environment.”

The National Care Awards celebrate excellence across the adult social care sector in Great Britain, recognising individuals and teams who make a real difference in the lives of those they support.
