Twelve extraordinary HC-One Colleagues announced as winners at the Regional Great British Care AwardTwelve HC-One Colleagues have been triumphant in being selected as winners and nine HC-One Colleagues were Highly Commended by the judging panel at the Great British Care Awards - Regional Awards 2022 for the East Midlands, West Midlands, North East, Scotland, York and Humberside, North West, South East and South West.

The Great British Care Awards consist of 23 awards and are a series of regional events which take place throughout the UK. The awards pay tribute to those who have achieved outstanding accomplishments within their area of work, celebrating excellence across the care sector. 

The award ceremony of the Great British Care Awards 2022, Regional Awards for the East Midlands region took place on Thursday 3rd November 2022 at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham. HC-One’s three successful winners at the Great British Care Awards - Regional Awards for the East Midlands Region 2022 are:

•    Hayley Sandison, Wellbeing Coordinator at Clarendon Hall Care Home, winner of The Activity Coordinator Award

“Hayley has the heart of her Residents and the community, her kindness shines through and her passion is unquestionable. Hayley has made the most effort to keep activities going, she has built a strong foundation of love and trust from her Residents, their families and her colleagues, Hayley is a true example of care and understanding.”

•    Victoria Meakin, Kitchen Manager at Aspen Court (Derby) Care Home, winner of The Care Home Chef/Cook Award

“An absolute star and a joy to listen to: totally passionate about making sure that every Resident, whatever their preferences or dietary needs derives the maximum possible benefit – and pleasure – from the food and drink prepared for them.”

•    Rani Mose, Deputy Manager at Magna Care Home, winner of The Social Care Nurse Award

“Rani’s inspiration to become a nurse was to make a difference in peoples’ lives. Rani felt the best way to understand the culture of the people of the UK was to work in the Social Care in the homes of the people she nurses.”

The Great British Care Awards 2022, Regional Awards for the West Midlands region took place on Saturday 5th November 2022 at the International Conference Centre in Birmingham. HC-One’s amazing winner at the Great British Care Awards - Regional Awards for the West Midlands Region 2022 is:

•    Pauline Gardiner, Senior Home Manager at Branston Court Care Home, winner of The Dementia Carer Award 

“Scoring the maximum for every question, Pauline exemplifies excellence in dementia care. Kind, empathetic, knowledgeable and compassionate – it seems as if Pauline was born for this role.”

Two HC-One Colleagues were also Highly Commended at the Great British Care Awards - Regional Awards for the West Midlands Region 2022 who are:

•    Sheryl Davis, Home Manager at Brandon House Care Home, Highly Commended in The Dementia Carer Award Category

“Sheryl is a clearly dedicated individual who excels in the provision of person-centred care for those with dementia. Putting her clients first, Sheryl is able to make sure they thrive under her care.”

•    Anita Horton, Home Manager at Priorslee House Care Home, Highly Commended in The Care Home Registered Manager Award Category

“Anita’s obvious passion and commitment to her Residents, their families and her team was apparent to the judges, along with her dedication to developing effective professional and community partnerships.”

The award ceremony of the Great British Care Awards 2022, Regional Awards for the North East and Scottish regions took place on Thursday 10th November 2022 at the Grand Hotel Gosforth Park, Newcastle. HC-One’s three successful winners at the Great British Care Awards - Regional Awards for the North East Region 2022 are:

•    HC-One, winner of the Care Employer Award 

“Nicola’s empathy and compassion stood out in her interview and its clear to see that she genuinely cares about those she leads and employs. She further acts as a good mentor and role model to those around her, leading by example to ensure the best for clients and staff alike.”

•    Lisa Morehead, Regional Director at HC-One, winner of The Outstanding Contribution to Social Care Award 

“Lisa is driven by her passion to enrich the lives of others, improving services and the quality of life of the Residents she supports. Lisa promotes positive risk taking, empowering service users to live as independently as possible.”

•    Chris Bonner, Development Chef at HC-One, winner of The Workforce Development Award 

“Chris is a driving force in his organisation, leading on training to an array of staff in many different settings to ensure they are giving nutritious and lovely food to the people that reside in the homes of the organisation. He has managed to train staff in a way that enables them to understand the person as well as the food that is served to them, keeping this service person centred to the individual.”

Four HC-One Colleagues were also Highly Commended at the Great British Care Awards - Regional Awards for the North East Region 2022 who are:

•    Marie Shillaw, Home Manager at Jack Dormand Care Home, Highly Commended in The Care Home Registered Manager Award Category

“Marie showed outstanding commitment and dedication to her role and her service over the last two years even when faced with her own personal challenges. Her passion for care really stood out and she is a great advocate for the sector as a whole.”

•    Nicola Mould, Home Manager at Orchard Mews Care Home, Highly Commended in The Social Care Nurse Award Category 

“Nicola is clearly passionate about the work she does and is always there to support Residents, Relatives and staff. She is proud of the work she does and maintains a laser focus on person centred care at all times. She is a true inspiration and much deserving of high commendation.”

•    Katie Heslop, Resident Liaison at St Clare’s Court Care Home, Highly Commended in The Care Assessor/Care Planner Award Category 

“Katie came across as extremely professional and passionate about the role that she has. It was clear that Katie cared very much about person centred support and her inclusion of families was commendable.”

•    Northview Lodge Care Team, Highly Commended in The Putting People First Award Category 

“This team exemplify the category ‘putting people first’ working well together to ensure best client outcomes. You can tell they really care about the thoughts and opinion of those they look after, giving visitors to the home a feedback sheet so that they can continue to provide an excellent and ever improving service.”

HC-One’s two successful winners at the Great British Care Awards - Regional Awards for the Scottish Region 2022 are:

•    The Care Team at Balcarres Care Home, winners of The Care Team Award 

“This incredible team support one another in order to provide the very best person centred care.  They go above and beyond both as group and individually and are truly dedicated to caring for the Residents.”

•    Anne Stewart, Home Administrator at Blar Buidhe Care Home, winner of the Outstanding Contribution to Social Care Award 

“Anne has been the administrator in Blar Buidhe Care Home for 29 and a half years. She has worked tirelessly over almost 3 decades to support Residents, their families and her colleagues. Living and working in a small island community, Anne has become so well known and well liked for her immense dedication to her quiet but essential role within the service.”

The Great British Care Awards 2022, Regional Awards for the York and Humberside region took place on Friday 11th November 2022 at the Leeds Armouries. HC-One’s two triumphant winners at the Great British Care Awards - Regional Awards for the York and Humberside Region 2022 are:

•    Liz Whyte, COVID-19 Lead at HC-One, winner of The Social Care Covid Hero Award Category 

“Liz was contemplating slowing down and taking semi-retirement when Covid hit. She took on the role as Covid lead for the whole company with over 300 homes. Liz’s approach did not feel corporate, but personal. Her care and commitment for every Resident, their loved ones and staff member, really shone through.”

•    Alex Tomlinson-Wood, Head Chef at Carr Gate Care Home, winner of The Care Home Cook/Chef Award Category 

“Alex demonstrates a high level of best practice modelling within his work. He demonstrates actions that have brought significant improvements to his kitchen which helps to meet the needs of people they support to a high level of satisfaction considering their health and wellbeing and personal preferences.”

One HC-One Colleague was also Highly Commended at the Great British Care Awards - Regional Awards for the York and Humberside Region 2022 who is:

•    Kim Quean, Wellbeing Coordinator at Windsor Court Care Home, Highly Commended in The Care Home Activity Organiser Award Category 

“Kim has taken to this role marvellously well and is making huge changes for the Residents to improve their life – Kim has a great mind to understand person centred care and is able to adapt to different situations well.”
The award ceremony of the Great British Care Awards 2022, Regional Awards for the North West region took place on Saturday 12th November 2022 at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel, Manchester. HC-One’s winning champion at the Great British Care Awards - Regional Awards for the North West Region 2022 is:

•    Lesley Pearson Moore, Wellbeing Coordinator at Pendleton Court Care Home, winner of The Care Home Activity Organiser Award 

“Lesley is energetic and enthusiastic about her job role, a true worthy winner in this category.”
The South East Region of the Great British Care Awards 2022 took place on Friday 18th November 2022 at the Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel, Brighton. HC-One’s Highly Commended Colleague at the Great British Care Awards - Regional Awards for the South East Region 2022 is:

•    Joy Pacificador, Registered General Nurse at Elstree Court Care Home, Highly Commended in The Social Care Nurse Award Category 

“Joy clearly loves her role and you can’t help but smile at her enthusiasm and desire to want to make a difference to those she cares for. She puts the residents at the heart of all she does and is a credit to social care nursing.”

The Great British Care Awards for the South West Region 2022 took place on Saturday 26th November 2022 at the Ashton Gate Stadium, Bristol. HC-One’s Highly Commended Colleague at the Great British Care Awards - Regional Awards for the South West Region 2022 is:

•    Lawra Baumane, Quality of Life Specialist at HC-One, Highly Commended in The Workforce Development Award Category

“Lawra visits all the care homes in her area, which she enjoys with passion. She plans developments with staff to deliver to the Residents.
“Lawra is very humble, has a very positive nature, attitude and is very creative in thinking. Lawra is very well organised in her role and promotes team work as feels this is very important in her role too.”
