Lifestyle
The approach to personalised care and support provided by Meadowlands achieves fantastic outcomes for Residents, many of whom would find it difficult to live within a more traditional institutionalised care setting as the relationship centred approach to care delivery reduces much of the anxiety often experienced.
The deinstitutionalisation of our service extends to our specialist nursing, care and support teams, all of whom are recruited and appraised on their values, attitudes and emotional intelligence, ensuring they are equipped to promote positive relationships with Residents not only providing but receiving care and support as we all do when we live as an integral part of an extended family. Our approach sees Residents nurtured and empowered to actively contribute to running their home so they feel valued members of their community.
There is no differentiation between staff and Resident living areas, an important part of care and support provided is ensuring that Residents and Colleagues can eat together, have a chat over a cup of tea, watch a film, play a game, do a jigsaw, go for a gentle stroll around the house or outside, hang out the washing, hose off the patio, water the plants, essentially the philosophy is centred breaking down boundaries and promoting inclusion and purpose.
None of the staff at Meadowlands wear a uniform or name badge and this diminishes the hierarchical sense of the more traditional setting; this removes boundaries so that
Residents and Colleagues run the house in harmony as one.
We spend as much time as possible outside; not only for the obvious benefits of fresh air and to appreciate the changing seasons and weather; but more importantly contributing to maintaining the outside area by helping with the gardening, bringing the washing in or whatever needs to be done that day.
Food and Nutrition
Our hospitality team prides itself on making mealtimes a special, stimulating part of each day. Residents are served three meals a day, as well as a mid-morning snack and afternoon tea. We use fresh ingredients, locally sourced wherever possible, with the emphasis on providing delicious seasonal meals. We understand the nutritional needs of older people and create meals that offer the correct calorific and nutritional content. We consider meals to be a fundamental part of each Resident’s care plan.
Eating is a social and an emotional experience, and our dining rooms are designed to create a relaxed, homely and happy atmosphere, with menus that offer plenty of variety.
